Easier Founder Life
For one-person founders. Format: easier > harder. You have about 4,000 weeks. Easier bets leave room for more attempts, and easier habits leave energy to make them.
Formulas#
- Attempts left = weeks left ÷ weeks per attempt. Choosing easier bets shortens each attempt and raises the count.
- Energy is the real currency. Choose work that gives some energy back.
- "Enough" is a number. Without one, no amount ever feels like enough.
Work (1–13)#
- Building on your strengths > fixing your weaknesses.
- Work you'd sometimes do for free > work you dread.
- Skills you already have > starting from zero.
- Building on past assets (code, audience, reputation) > a fresh start.
- Deep work in the morning > scattered hours.
- One main bet > many.
- A weekly rhythm > reinventing every day.
- Finishing > starting.
- Small daily output > rare heroic bursts.
- Shipping imperfect work > polishing forever.
- Asking for help > struggling alone.
- Judging and directing, with AI doing the work > doing every task by hand.
- Saying no > saying yes.
Life (14–26)#
- Sleep > late nights.
- Moving every day > occasional gym binges.
- Low personal costs > a lifestyle that grows with every raise.
- A place that's affordable and pleasant > an expensive, stressful one.
- Family time scheduled first > whatever time is left over.
- Offline time every day > always on.
- Maintaining your body > repairing it.
- Hobbies unrelated to work > work as your whole identity.
- Friends outside business > only other founders.
- Walking to think > screen time.
- Seasons of sprint and rest > a constant grind.
- A thinking week every year > never stepping back.
- A defined "enough" > endless "more."
Mind (27–38)#
- Process goals > outcome goals alone.
- Writing decisions down > deciding in your head.
- Deciding reversible things fast > overthinking them.
- Evidence for big calls > feelings.
- Your own scorecard > other people's metrics.
- Comparing yourself to your past self > comparing yourself to others.
- Curiosity > fear.
- Accepting limits > trying to do everything.
- Keeping your self-worth separate from outcomes > staking your identity on each launch.
- Tolerating boredom > chasing novelty.
- A long-term view > quarterly panic.
- Noticing what's working > constant dissatisfaction.
Learning and people (39–50)#
- Learning by doing > reading only.
- Books that have lasted > trend posts.
- People 1–2 steps ahead of you > celebrities.
- A peer group > going solo.
- A mentor at turning points > winging it.
- Teaching what you learn > keeping it to yourself.
- Customers as teachers > guessing.
- Small experiments > big theories.
- Role models whose whole lives you'd want > business-only idols.
- Being generous with help > being transactional.
- Long relationships > one-off networking.
- Leaving things better than you found them > extracting what you can.
If you keep only 5: #1 (strengths), #4 (past assets), #12 (judge and direct), #14 (sleep), #26 (define enough).
