Easier Conversion
For one-person digital products. Format: easier > harder. Conversion is easiest when warm visitors meet a clear, low-risk offer with a small first step.
Formulas#
- Easy conversion = warm traffic × clear offer × low risk × small first step.
- Friction = the clicks, fields and decisions between interest and payment. Count them and cut them.
- Trust needed rises with price × risk. A low price and an easy refund need little trust.
Traffic (1–10)#
- Warm traffic (referrals, your list, communities) > cold traffic.
- Traffic that searched for it > traffic you interrupted.
- One segment per page > mixed traffic.
- Visitors pre-sold by someone they trust > visitors who've never heard of you.
- Free users > first-time visitors.
- Returning visitors, nurtured by email > one-visit strangers.
- Traffic from comparison pages > traffic from general content.
- Unhappy customers of a competitor > happy ones.
- Visitors in a trigger moment > casual browsers.
- Fewer, better visitors > more random ones.
Offer (11–24)#
- A clear outcome > a feature list.
- A visible price > a hidden price.
- A guarantee > "all sales final."
- Try before you buy > pay to see.
- A small first step (trial, starter plan) > a big commitment.
- Few choices > many.
- A recommended plan > options that all look equal.
- Annual as an option > annual only.
- A real deadline (launch pricing) > "always on sale."
- A bonus that speeds up the result (setup, templates) > a discount.
- "We'll migrate you" > "you can import."
- Proof from people like them > generic logos.
- Honest limits stated up front > surprises after purchase.
- Value 10× the price > value roughly equal to the price.
Page and flow (25–38)#
- One page, one goal > a page trying to do everything.
- Showing the product > describing it.
- A short signup > a long form.
- Value before an account > an account first.
- Card timing chosen on purpose. Card later for volume, card first for high intent > a random choice.
- A one-page checkout > several steps.
- Works well on mobile > desktop only.
- A fast page > a heavy page.
- Objections answered on the page > answered in support tickets.
- Signs the product is alive (recent changelog dates) > a page that looks abandoned.
- The founder's face > anonymity.
- Onboarding toward one aha moment > a tour of everything.
- Sample data > an empty screen.
- Upgrade prompts at the moment of need > random prompts.
Follow-through (39–50)#
- Emails triggered by behavior > calendar blasts.
- A personal email from the founder > a no-reply address.
- Asking "What stopped you?" > guessing.
- A reminder before the trial ends > a silent expiry.
- Recovering failed payments > losing customers to expired cards.
- A setup call for high-value leads > self-serve only.
- A written recap after every call > memory.
- Three follow-ups > one.
- A win-back offer > letting them go silently.
- Measuring every funnel step > measuring only revenue.
- Fixing the biggest drop first > polishing what already works.
- Big changes at low traffic > tiny A/B tests.
If you keep only 5: #1 (warm traffic), #15 (a small first step), #21 (we'll migrate you), #28 (value before an account), #49 (biggest drop first).
